NASTA WASTA Deliciously Designed Back In 2017
Nasta Wasta is a space that combines old world charm in a quirky, young, fun setting. The space brings together old style street food and the specialty of kulhad chai, in a modern, new age set up.
We built the space with colors that bring out the lightness of the theme of the store – ‘chai pe bath, apno ke sath’. Using the vibrancy of a yellow themed space offset with multicolored décor helped bring out the ‘pop’ with a young, energetic vibe.
We added dimensions to the quirk with ‘kalhakarah’ styled cartoon artwork, depicting typical Indian street food. A special feature are the ‘tea pot lights’, over the dining tables. The seating is kept simple and the chairs and table are made to match modern industrial designs, while remaining comfortable. Its simplicity is also used as a tool to draw the contrast to the other various quirky details.
To add to the specific theme of ‘Kulhad style’ chai, we went the extra mile and installed lighting made from Kulhad cups. This acts as a focal point in the café lighting up the custom designed ‘street food cart’, placed strategically under the Kulhad lights as the most prominent feature of the design layout. This feature helped us bring the outdoor feel indoors while also tying up the various facets and smaller details. The lighting adds to the vibrancy of the yellow walls and accentuates the specifically laid out bobble heads and curios placed strategically in places to draw the eye.
The curios were hand-picked to match the overall theme and add extra charm to the eclectic design of the space. The shelving is minimalist and modern, keeping function and style in mind, while providing space to display items as per the requirement.
This was a project that allowed us to use our ideas to suit the restaurant owners’ idea, in a fun, creative manner. We enjoyed putting this project together.
